End of 1st Semester Grading

If your grade is lower than you feel and have not turned in a playing assessment, that grading category is a zero and then weighted in the overall grade. Mr. Randolph and I care about you all deeply and everything assigned is designed to improve your playing. Fundamental skills translate to performance etudes. Rhythm packets help sight reading and etudes. All assignments help improve ensemble performances and performance quality.

 DESCRIPTION OF GRADING AREAS

Rehearsal, Improvement, Engagement, and Performance (70%)

Students are expected to be present, have all materials, stay engaged, improve, prepare for upcoming rehearsals and performances, and maintain a positive attitude.

1.  Daily Classes

2.  Sectionals

3.  After School/Evening Rehearsals

4.  Performances (Concerts, Festivals)

Proficiencies (15%)

Students will be asked to prepare, record, and upload technical exercises and individual parts from the music throughout the semester as assigned and/or needed.

Assignments (15%)

Although not extensive, students will be expected to complete assignments that demonstrate their knowledge of musical terms, rhythmic skills, understanding pitch/tuning, and music theory. These are critical to further their music literacy throughout high school.

Typical List of Assignments

1.  Rhythm Counting Sheets

2.  Long Tone Charts

3.  Strobe Sheets

4.  Theory Handouts

Basketball Band

It is that time of the year for pep band. As a program we perform at 10 basketball games divided amongst girls and boys varsity teams. We divide the program into two bands. All students perform at five games. Students may elect to perform at more games and can earn additional band letter points. If a student cannot make it to their group’s night, they may get a sub from another band and attend a different night.  Dance Team and Winter guard conflicts, contact Mr. A, and cc Mr. R. Basketball Band will count towards semester 2 grading.

Games are scheduled on the calendar. Ensemble Roster.
