About

The Sprague High Band and Colorguard Boosters is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, volunteer organization with a mission to support the Sprague High School Director of Bands in the development of excellence in music education, performance, and leadership in our students. This is accomplished by providing financial, logistical, and volunteer support to all activities of the band program at Sprague High School.

About the Directors

Ashley Alexander, Band Director

Ashley Alexander joined the Sprague High School faculty in 2024.  Prior to his appointment he served as the Associate Director of Bands for West Salem H.S. directing the West Salem Marching Band, and Jazz Studies and was the director of Westview High School band from 2017 to 2019. Ashley also was the Band Director at Aloha High School and Mountain View Middle School. He established the “Band Rocks,” mentorship program that strengthens the connection and skills of middle school band students to high school which was recognized by the Beaverton School District Board.  Before his time at Aloha, Mr. Alexander was teaching in the Salem-Keizer School District working with the beginning bands at Waldo and Stephens Middle Schools.

Mr. Alexander has been serving in the 234th Army Band of the Oregon National Guard for 22 years and has been the 234th Army Band’s conductor/commanding officer for the past 16 years.  Ashley has also served as the Associate Conductor of the Portland Wind Symphony from 2010 to 2012.

His education includes a Master of Music in Performance from DePaul University in Chicago where he studied with members of the Chicago Symphony and a Master of Education from Portland State University. Mr. Alexander has experience as a professional bassoonist performing as a member with the Portland Columbia Symphony Orchestra His hobbies outside of being a musician include, Astronomy/Astrophotography, Soccer, spending time with his family.

Brett Randolph, Assistant Band Director

Brett Randolph was excited to join the Sprague High School faculty in 2024 as the Associate Director of Bands, as he is a 1996 graduate of Sprague High School. Prior to his appointment he served as the Director of Bands for Waldo Middle School from 2011-2024 and Director of Bands for Crossler Middle School from 2003-2011.

Mr. Randolph has been a freelance trumpet player in the Northwest for the last 30 years. He studied with Joan Paddock and Jay Chen in his early years. Brett received many honors and accomplishments in high school (Sprague HS) leading to him placing 1st Place at the OSAA State Solo Competition his senior year. He got a full ride scholarship to OSU where he received his B.S. in Music Performance/Education in 2002 and then his M.A.T. in Music Education in 2004. Brett is an active performer with the Willamette Master Chorus, Festival Chorale Oregon, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Big Horn Brass, Principal Trumpet of the Portland Choir & Orchestra, and the Salem Orchestra. Brett has been privileged to be a guest soloist in many different groups around the Salem and Portland areas. Brett has maintained a private trumpet studio since he was in high school. His love of music guided him to meeting his wife at OSU. His wife, Pippa Randolph, a flautist who is also a sought-after performer. The two of them have 5 beautiful children who are all very talented musicians themselves.

The Sprague Band and Colorguard Boosters is an organization that helps support the band at Sprague, handling fundraising, logistics, and coordinating volunteers. We meet monthly, and anyone that is the parent or guardian of a student enrolled in band is welcome to our monthly meetings. Meetings are listed on the calendar.
